Default Fan switch bulb replacement...

After breaking my HVAC switch trying to change the bulb, I find that I was able to repair the switch by taking it ALL apart. In doing so, I found that it really shouldn't matter what fan-speed position the switch is in when you pull the knob out.

Also, I found that the "generic #74" bulb that I got from Osram was just slightly too large in diameter. For what its worth, get it from the dealer and you won't have the problem. My switch snapped on the fourth try taking it out, as I tried and tried again to get that #74 bulb to fit. After taking it all apart, I found a slightly different bulb, and it fit fine.

If anyone needs to know how to fix the switch once it snaps, PM me and I'll send instructions and pictures...

All the best,
Mathew Banack

Lnzbug, did you need pliers to pull out the fan control knob? My headlight switch came out easily when I replaced it with a Euroswitch. The fan control knob doesn't seem to want to come out that easily.
Thanks.

Thanks.
Use pliers & use something to protect the knob. That's why I used the jar gripper pad thingie(official name )
Make sure it's in the straight up & down position (2)

(I used a jar opener gripper) You need a piece of plastic tubing to pull the bulb straight out. I got 1/4 inch diameter vinyl tubing from menards($1). Push the tubing over the bulb then pull out. Bring it to the dealer and they'll know exactly which one to give you. They gave me one free The new bulb just gets pushed in with the tubing. Then put the control knob back in and you're good to go Good luck. If I can do it anybody can.
Thanks for the info however if you can add some pic and make a tutorial it would help people like me.

thanks again..

Thank you so much for your solution on the fan control light bulb. Now I have a question for you. Are there lights for the dashboard vents? It looks like there might be with the white like markings on them.

Thumbs up dealer bulb?

Lnzbug, I am so glad you posted this fix as I am having the same issue! I have a question though. Can you get the bulb at Autozone or Advanced Auto, and if so, any idea what the number is? The dealer is out of the way and the others quite close.

I was unable to find them at any of my auto part chain stores so I had to go to the dealer.

If the dealer is to far for ya, jut order it online

Read the first page then got bored. But thought I would throw in my experience. I had to do this recently. #74 bulb from O'Reillys Auto. Put the fan in #2 position and pull the crap out of it. I swore I was going to break it, but finally just ripped it off and all was good. I didn't use the rubber hose, I used some long needle nose pliers. Getting the old out was easy, putting the new one in was difficult. The knob went back on just fine and fan works fine. Although I did scratch the knob pulling it off with needle nose pliers (Shhhh! Don't tell the wife, she hasn't noticed yet)

Has anyone had a problem with the a/c lights just working every now and then? Mine will come on randomly so I thought it was loose wiring somewhere? I checked the fuses and they seem to be all good? I don't think that the bulb could be blown if it comes on sometimes or can it?

I bet the bulb is just loose. Try just seating it properly again.

Mine did the exact same thing...on sometimes, off others. I replaced the bulb and have had no more problems with it.

If it's the bulb behind the heater control knob, i put an orange one in and it was still red. This is because all the fitments that light up RED have a RED filter behind them. So how someone got theres BLUE i would love to know
