The cost depends on if you do it yourself, have the dealer, or independent shop do the job. A kit consisting of clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, and flywheel can run around $450. Just a suggestion, use the VR6 clutch, and the lightened G60 flywheel.

You can get the lightweight clutch kit from ecs I believe for the stated $450. Install can be anywhere from 400 - 800, that's JUST to install it. It is a bit involved, so beware if you DIY.

My 1998 has 210,000 on the factory clutch, and still pulls strong.

My 2002 has 102,000 on the factory clutch, again strong

I've seen clutches fail at 40,000, 60,000, 100,000 and 250,000... the big factor is do you drive in the city more than the highway. City driving wears on a clutch more so than highway, so if you have 100,000 city miles it may be due to be replaced.

You can test it. Drive the car to 20MPH in 1st gear, then shift into 5th and engage the clutch then floor the gas pedal. The speedometer needle should move slowly and the tach should move slow as well. if the tach bounces from 2000-3000 RPM, or anything similar to that, it's slipping. If the car accelerates to 50 or so MPH and the tach stays solid in motion and doesn't bounce around, the clutch is good.

Good luck!
