Red face Internal illumination failure

Hi to all, I have been having a problem with the illumination on the dash of my 2001 beetle when I turn the lights on, they keep going off!!!!! which is not good now the darker nights are here. They do come back on when I move the handbrake but will not stay on, is there a conection with the handbrake and the dash lights?

Daytime running lights go on when emergency brake is disengaged. Other than that I have no idea.

I have similar problems, check your fuses, 3rd placement (Illumination) of the mini fuses, it didn't fix my problem, but hopefully it does yours. I know how frustration it can be. I have a similar thread on this section of the forums. Some other guys gave me some good tips.

hi thanxs for that, I have spoken to a mechanic since posting the thread, he suggested it could be an earthing problem? I will investigate when it stops Raining! and I get time.
