errrr I dont have that problem... do you have a TDi perchance?
Diesels by thier very nature do not generate heat at idle. I know that mine would get pretty darn cold in heavy traffic. nothing to recall on that. Its the nature of the beast. |

I've not seen this problem, but a shot off the hip would make me wonder if your water pump is starting to fail (slipping) so that at idle it isn't pumping as fast, thus coolant isn't flowing thus the coolant in the heater core sheds heat with no fresh hot coolant. When you are driving, you have higher RPMs, enough for the water pump to push coolant around thus heat. I've seen waterpumps fail in such a way where they do slip.
Now the good news would be that the water pump can be replaced without taking the timing belt out of the car (or that engine mount). If you remove the thermostat you can get your finger on the impeller of the water pump. If you can "wiggle" it at all, then you need a new water pump. However, it may not wiggle when cold, thus you would want to check it when the engine is up to temp and risk some nice burns. Welcome to my world.

Well obviously this thread isn't toward those of you that don't have this problem. And since some of you don't know what I'm talking about, why dont you do a quick search. I did and I found at least 4 threads.
http://www.newbeetle.org/forums/showthread.php?t=5332 http://www.newbeetle.org/forums/show...ghlight=heater http://www.newbeetle.org/forums/show...ghlight=heater http://www.newbeetle.org/forums/show...ghlight=heater I appreciate the help you guys are giving me, but this is about us the have the problem to simply call it in to have it documented, and I hope those that are having or have had the problem would take the time to do so. And no, I don't have a TDI. Last edited by Black Cat; 11-12-2006 at 12:03 PM.. |

This seems to be a problem in 2006 2.5 liter beetles. Mary said Rubie is still doing the same thing, it has not gone away. I will call tomorrow.

Fram is generally considered to be a less than ideal oil filter for any car. The VW filter is better than Fram. A Mobil 1 filter is better. Select the filter based on the engine for your car and year of your car. Any good auto parts store should have a book with the correct filter listed.

Stick with Mann or Mahle which are OEM. Mobil 1 filters are excellent. If you can't get those buy another manufacturer's OEM filter, i.e. AC, Motorcraft, etc. They will be better than cheap aftermarket crapola.

And expecting people to help you even further by doing searches on topics you are speaking quite vaguely about isn't helping either. Much simpler to just describe your issue here, in the thread where you're asking people to help you.

Do you realize, everyone, that the OP put this up in 2006?
