Default Very important! Let's see if we can help each other

Ok. I know I'm becoming a pest with this whole heater issue that's been spoken of in a few threads but I finally called VW Customer Service. I really had no other reason besides just documenting the fact that I'm having this problem. I'm sure some of you may know this already, but for those of you that don't, one major way car makers institute recalls is from documenting cases from the drivers - us! I know this sounds too idealistic and I'm not trying to cause a recall but I thought maybe if those of us actually call the VW Customer Service and simply document the problem. At least VW will perk their ears up, so to speak. What do you guys think?

Just for easy reference, the number is: 1.800.822.8987 8am-5pm EST and you'll need your car's VIN number.

That whole thing about the heater not blowing hot air when you're stopped and then resuming the hot air when you accelerate.

errrr I dont have that problem... do you have a TDi perchance?

Diesels by thier very nature do not generate heat at idle. I know that mine would get pretty darn cold in heavy traffic. nothing to recall on that. Its the nature of the beast.

I've not seen this problem, but a shot off the hip would make me wonder if your water pump is starting to fail (slipping) so that at idle it isn't pumping as fast, thus coolant isn't flowing thus the coolant in the heater core sheds heat with no fresh hot coolant. When you are driving, you have higher RPMs, enough for the water pump to push coolant around thus heat. I've seen waterpumps fail in such a way where they do slip.

Now the good news would be that the water pump can be replaced without taking the timing belt out of the car (or that engine mount). If you remove the thermostat you can get your finger on the impeller of the water pump. If you can "wiggle" it at all, then you need a new water pump. However, it may not wiggle when cold, thus you would want to check it when the engine is up to temp and risk some nice burns. Welcome to my world.

Well obviously this thread isn't toward those of you that don't have this problem. And since some of you don't know what I'm talking about, why dont you do a quick search. I did and I found at least 4 threads.

I appreciate the help you guys are giving me, but this is about us the have the problem to simply call it in to have it documented, and I hope those that are having or have had the problem would take the time to do so.

And no, I don't have a TDI.

It's not the only way, but it's one of the big ways...at least that's what I was told, but what's the worst that could happen by just calling it in?

This seems to be a problem in 2006 2.5 liter beetles. Mary said Rubie is still doing the same thing, it has not gone away. I will call tomorrow.

Fram is generally considered to be a less than ideal oil filter for any car. The VW filter is better than Fram. A Mobil 1 filter is better. Select the filter based on the engine for your car and year of your car. Any good auto parts store should have a book with the correct filter listed.

Stick with Mann or Mahle which are OEM. Mobil 1 filters are excellent. If you can't get those buy another manufacturer's OEM filter, i.e. AC, Motorcraft, etc. They will be better than cheap aftermarket crapola.

Just as an FYI. If you're asking for people's help, it would help to give the info here on what you'd like help on. Not everyone reads every thread, and aren't going to know what you're talking about.

And expecting people to help you even further by doing searches on topics you are speaking quite vaguely about isn't helping either.

Much simpler to just describe your issue here, in the thread where you're asking people to help you.

Yes. I only responded to the new off topic question about the oil filter.

Yep - saw this. Post #11 is new. Rather than point out to the poster that his/her question should have been a new thread, I answered it. The new poster is probably new to the forums.
