Default "How To" for Pela Topside Extractor?

Any of you guys feel like helping me out, in the spirit of the season?

I have ordered a Pela Extractor for my hubby for Christmas, so he can change the oil in our NBs without getting up underneath every time. I had to order the Pela 650 because the 6000 is out of stock. He will be using it to change the oil in our '99 1.8 Turbo right away, and eventually also in our '06 TDI (it's due for the 5K service, but I have an appt. scheduled for Thursday at our dealer. We may do the next one though.)

Can someone help me write up a step-by-step "How To" for an oil change using the Pela? I've seen the video over at tdiclub, but I think it was on a Jetta, and I'd really like to include the How To with the gift. Will the steps be the same for both the 1.8 and the TDI?

Thanks very much for your help. Donna

There is a oil change using a Pela how-to video on the TDIClub site. See URL below.

Your hubby will never know the pain he was saved due to the 6000 being out of stock. 650... MUCH better unit and ONE HANDED operation is key to ease of use.

The extra money was worth it... trust me!!!

As for the Jetta/Beetle difference, the only change is how you get the engine cover off. Everything else is the same. Even from the ALH engines of pre 04 to the PD engines of 04+. The difference will be in how the oil filter is changed in the 1.8. Never seen one so I can't comment.

Thanks for your help, guys!

I didn't want to ruin the surprise, but it was all I could do not to tell him about it after he went into Auto Zone to buy an extractor and they sent him out the door with a $1.59 setup consisting of a siphon squeeze tube and some clear plastic tubing I hope he likes the Pela!

I have seen the TDI how to ... but the 1.8T will still have him on his back and covered in oil to the elbows to change the filter, no way around it.

Hey thanks for the tip DeeCee!!! I saw your note and looked at the video and promptly ordered one. Good thing Santa has email and takes plastic!

I've got that sloppy 1.8T oil filter change down to a science.... hardly get greasy at all. Its putting Ziggy and the Sienna van on ramps and sqeezing under the car that gets to me these days.

Guys..and Gals.. seriously.. read EVERY post about Pela 6000 and you will see there is as much bad as there is good about it.

What you really want is a unit designed like this.

or

http://www.jerrybleach.com/pelaapps650.html

This is what I use.

Remember.. ONE HANDED OPERATION... repeat again.. ONE HA...oh you get the point.

Don't be cheap, it will just cost you later.
