Angry Throttle body calibration?

Girlfriend just picked up a 99 New Beetle and there seems to be an idle issue. When the car first starts the idle is very low and engine cuts out. This will happen a few times unless a little gas is applied. After a few mins the car will idle without cutting out but the idle wavers quite a bit.

I have read a couple of posts that talk about the throttle body losing calibration if the battery dies. Anyone have any more information on this/advice on what to do?

Was the car in the shop (you said the car was "picked up")? Could it be related to that work? My battery crapped out on me and I had no issues with anything after I replaced it. The throttle body has some adaptability to it based on your driving and ECM management, but to accurately adjust and align it, you need to use VAGCOM.

It if continues with no CEL, you may have a MAF or an O2 sensor(s) on its way to the grave.

You might also want to check all the vacuum lines, too.
