Why is my snowflake stuck on? It's been on for a few weeks now and, after coming back from the mountain, it just stayed on forever. I tried switching from F to C but that didn't do anything. It's not a huge deal, but I feel special when I see it because it's usually not so often. Now, I see it all the time!

I believe that the power interruption reset it. (just an assumption on my part) |

lol. BB and I barely ever have the cute snowflake...
it would be funny to get up to 120 degrees and still have the snowflake on LOL Tell us if Alans method works!

There actually is a problem on the 98/99 models with the snow flake coming on and not going back off. The only way to reset it is to interrupt the power in some manner. The easiest way it to unplug the sensor which is down by the driver's side fog light or where the fog light would be if you don't have fog lights. You should be able to unplug it there and it will reset. You can unplug the battery as well. Just have your radio code handy just in case.

Actually, I didn't think this was a problem that was only for the '98-'99 NBs. I thought it happened with all of them. Mine does it.
Here's my understanding. The snowflake (if on) only goes off when the temp goes from 39 to 40. It has to make that specific jump in order for it to know to shut the snowflake off. So, say in the morning on your way to work it drops down below 42, and the snowflake comes on. You get to work, the snowflake is on, and throughout the day, it warms up. So you start the car at the end of the day and it's now 50 degrees. Since the car wasn't on during that climb from 39-40, it doesn't know to turn off the snow flake. Really, just a bad piece of code. If (PreviousTemp=39) and (NewTemp=40) Then SnowFlake = False End If

Interesting info Pete. I'm pretty sure my car was still under 40 when I started it back up seing as I was in the mountains, but I could be wrong. But yes, very dumb coding on their part.
Su, is this thingy by the fog light a switch I should see? |

By the way, my (flawed) thinking is that the snowflake kicks in at about 40 degrees because it's function is as an "(black) ice alert", much the same as the British Rover. It really has no use unless there is an audible alarm to go along with it to forewarn you...

The problem was fixed in the late 2000 model year. I know it was fixed in 2001. I had the problem with my 98, but didn't with my 2001, 2003 or 2006. This problem caused much discussion on "the list" from what I remember.
bmxbugzzi - It is not a switch but rather a temp sensor. If you release the temp sensor from its mounting bracket (looks like a plastic C clip the last time I looked), you should be able to unplug the sensor from the wire harness. I thought of another way to do it but someone needs to determine which fuse to pull. You can pull the fuse for the display and reset it that way. I just don't remember which fuse it is and if its the same fuse on all model years. |

Also, that round cover in the front bumper, the one for the "tow hook"? That's where they insert the probe. Hope this helps!

Justin! LOL!!!!!! I'll be sure not to push in my radio volume knob so I don't get an anal probe in the middle of the night! ![]() Thanks for all the info Su! I'll crawl under there tomorrow in the daylight to see if I can figure it out! ![]() |

I thought the temp was also monitored when I was not in the car .... like get to work and it is 43 degrees, and at noon go to lunch and it is 73 degrees before I turn the key. |

I know my snowflake comes on in the 40s sometimes, but not all the time LOL but it turns off.
For example today it was 84 degrees out, and no snowflake... so mine doesnt get stuck, but it does stay on into the 40s SOMETIMES lol |

Ok ok...I'm gonna borrow a brain cell and ask...What the heck are you all talking about...ahem...sorry. What is this SNOWFLAKE you're all refering too?
