Angry brake light fuse blowing

i changed out the sockets and light enclosures and for some reason the fuse keeps blowing everytime i hit the brake. this of course prevents me from taking it out of park. the dealership says its not related to the brake lightswitch recall.

does anyone know what the heck this might be. I miss my bug. havent driven it for 2 weeks.

I'm no expert...but I wonder how the service department can be so sure that it's not the brake switch...

That short may be in an elusive place. Check the Yellow Pages to find an auto electric specialist. They may be a bit pricey, but they will know how to narrow down the possibilities. (those are the types of places where body shops send their repairs that have electrical issues that they can't solve on their own...)

Good Luck!

I'd check the wiring on the light bulb sockets - sounds like its wired wrong....double check with a multimeter that the base of the bulb is actually connected to earth as it sounds like when you put the brakes on you have 12V going straight to earth and not thru the bulb.

i just changed out the sockets after the problem started up. Im thinking the switch could be to blame. Im probably going to have to send it to the specialized shop next week.

your lights are not working and if it is an automatic and you cant get it out of park I will bet that its the break light switch... If there are more then one dealerships around you take it into them and see what they will say.
