Exclamation '02 Beelte GLS - Major Engine Problem!

Every now and then the car has these sort of "hiccups", where I feel the fuel isn't getting to the motor sufficiently and the car begins to have spurts of speed and then will cut off and then on again. At the beginning, the motor would just shut off and as soon as I would turn it back on it would be fine, but now its getting out of control; I'll be driving and all of a sudden it will feel like some one pinched the fuel line and I will instantly loose 10 MPH and then it will go back and forth. I notice this happens usually when I have the AC on (set to a low or 1). I have taken it to 2 different VW dealerships and they have both said the same thing, and have found nothing wrong with the car. I am going crazy because no one can tell me what the hell it is or what the F$#% I should do. I hope someone could help me in this matter, PLEASE.

Cheers,
Bico

P.S. Nothing has been done to the car, and has all of its stock parts. It currently has about 16,000 miles.

Don't worry. Hopefully someone who is far more knowledgeable about computer controlled engines than me will weigh in and give you some ideas but if not, I am sure it will eventually throw a code, then the dealer or a good shop can figure it out. That is the problem with today's complicated engines. In the old days, engines were easy to diagnose but those days are long gone. A clogged fuel filter would have been the first thing to check on an old engine, but at 16,000 miles there is very little chance that is the problem.

Best chance I think you have is finding a way to 100% reproduce the problem. Then take a mechanic on a ride w/a laptop/vagcom 1552/whatever. It's likely some controller flippin' out, thinking it's acting right (so it doesn't cause an error code) but ultimately not.

16k is early for a fuel filter, but if you got a bad tank somwere it could be toast. probably not to expensive to change out in a gasser.

It sounds just like a problem I had with my '96 Golf. It would drive very erratic sometimes, wouldn't respond to the throttle and sometimes it would just die all together; it turned out to be a bad fuel pump. I'm still learning about the NB so I'm not sure if this is a possible problem but it's probably worth looking into. Good luck!

Unhappy Found Problem!!!

Appearantly when I bought the auto, there glorious 101 point inspection overlooked the fact that the fuel pump had been corroding while in the lot waiting for purchase. So the sediment from the filter was making its way into the fuel line thus causing the malfunction. Hope by posting this someone will benefit from it. Thank you to all!!
