Default Revo and Flashing Temp Light

ok guys, just got the car flashed with Revo and now I have a problem. we were only about a qtr mile away from the shop and when the red temp light started flashing, we immediately brought the car back to the shop, they made it go away by "releasing some pressure".

we drove around for 30 miles or so, stop and saw a movie :-), then got back on the road. about 60 miles later, the temp light started flashing again, but eventually stopped

what could be the problem?

the coolant is full, no signs of leakage

last, the light started flashing again, this time, there was no hot air from the heater vents either; im starting to suspect its the thermostat

also, in addition to the temp light, now the oil and the engine check lights are on

i just dropped it off at the dealership, not taking any chances

darn, car only has 25k miles on it and ive only had it 2 weeks! vw's already leaving a sour taste :-(

or the coolant tempature sensor has failed; which could cause the flashing temp light and CEL. The oil light, however, that's something I can't explain... that would mean the oil pressure has dropped, and I wouldn't want to assume that the oil pump has a problem. Sorry it's starting out so rough, if you have the VIN call VWoA Customer Care and ask them for the exact date of manufacture...reference with a calendar...see if it's a monday car.

kind of a universal car joke; your car was built by hungover workers so not every bolt is tightened, etc.

give me some details of your car. year, mileage, etc.

:-)

it's a 2004 GLS 1.8t convertible, right now it has 25700 miles

we bought the car used

just before these problems, i notice a little "glitch", while at about 60mph, the car would suddenly loose power and deccelerate to 40mph, then the power surge again??

check your vacuum lines, that could cause the surging i think. you don't have a whole lot of miles but if the car was abused thats enough to cause excessive wear, throwing in the revo may have pushed a failing component to it's breaking point. I'm no expert on the 1.8t, hopefully this week someone will chime from the 1.8t forum and throw out some more insight. if its off to the dealer, though, it should be in good hands.

I'm not 100% sure about that. You may want to call your REVO installer and ask him that, if I recall correctly some software versons are "stealth" and the dealer won't know. I'm unsure if it modifies anything that reports via the VAG software the dealer uses to determine if it is installed or not. Your car still has warranty, doesn't it?

service rep called me today, didn't really tell me what the problem was but he said they might need to drop the oil pan to check for sludges

he gave me an estimate of $105.00 for now but who knows

anyway, i got the car used and have no way of proving the 5000 miles interval maintanence so he said i might have a problem with the warranty....i smell total bs here!!

just got an update

looks like they're going to replace the water pump, thermostat and the sensor, and all this will be covered under the warranty

i asked him if he can do the timing belt (my cost) while they're at it but he suggested i wait until 80K miles or so, he said the parts would costs me too much (belt, new tensioner etc..)

i'm happy for now, let's see how the car runs when i get it back

I'd strongly suggest you make them do the belt now and pay for the parts. Call the dealer and get the parts quote first, then call the tech and tell him you'll be glad to pay xxx for the tensioner and belt and the necessary fluids. The main $ is the labor in that job, if they're going in there for warranty work anyway you should get out with just the parts price (thats why he doesn't want to do it b/c they get a flate-rate for warranty work and you'd kind of be taking advantage of him).

i think they're almost done with the car already, and he said it would costs me at least $200.00 for the parts

i'll skip on the belt for now, already spent more than i wanted to on the car, new healdights, Revo and "car rental" :-(

Here's hoping that the coolant pump straightens it out.

The 1.8T in the NB is not very subject to 'sludge', due to it's large oil reserve. In fact, I've never seen anyone here post an "I've got sludge!" thread. There were sludge issues with the 1.8T in the A4 Audi and other brands.

U r still within warranty BTW.
