Im in the midst of changing out my fuel filter, I read somewhere about relieving the line pressure by removing the pump fuse then cranking for a short bit. I located Marvin's dad's old post outlining which fuses are what since about 10 of them force you to refer to the manual, however even going by his summary of which fuse should operate the fuel pump.. mine still kicked on and I was able to run the car for a couple minutes. Would anyone know which numbered location fuse controls the power to the fuel pump on a 2.0?
Second, does anyone know the average amount of pressure the AC holds when it's fully charged? Here again I read somewhere (either here or Vortex) how some dude put a gauge on his and it showed full (past the red) but he precoeeded to put two more cans before cold air began to blow. Saturday I put one full can (the walmart can that has the blue hose/gauge combo)...but still not cold air. But here's something funny, when the connector was attached to the low side I felt like I had to push that connector another 1/8in and bottom it out before any coolant was entering the system, also that low side hose/tubing never got cold at all except for the time while I was shaking it and I believe some liquid instead of gas got sucked in. I did check the notorius 30 amp fuses to which the only one with a wire coming from the connector, was ok. Both fans kick on and I have no blown fuses in the interior block either. Clutch kicks in although I dont see any jump or sag in RPM's when it does. I visually saw the clutch spinning though. According to previous owner (parents) the AC would freeze your nutz off last summer. If it is low then the generic AC pressure gauge is off by quite a bit. It could be overfilled now, but there again the gauge never showed a dramatic increase in pressure.. hell it even fluctuated by about 10 pounds during the course of squirting. I'm lost. ![]() |

My Haynes says remove fuse number 28.
In another section of the same manual it says to have spare rags and/or a fuel container to catch or wipe up extra fuel from the filter when changing. Can't help you with the aircon - in Australia its illegal to play with aircon system - years ago we could buy recharge kits but the do-gooders said you might get frost bite. |

I've never done any sort of pressure relief on past vehicles but this one being German I figured I'd check cause you never know ;-)
Also does anyone have any info about the AC? I guess I could cut the questions down to: Whats the normal amount of pressure the system should hold ata full charge? Any tid bits of info that I should be aware of whilst doing this? Thanks All! |

And ref the freezing - if you get some liquid R134A or R12 or whatever on your skin you have instant frostbite plus other nasties. Probably overkill but Australia like many other countries is fast becoming a "nanny state" IMO. |
