Question Random 3 Beeps ??

I started up my car and headed home from my mom's house tonight. My ABS light has been popping on and off lately and I need to have my brakes done... but that's nothing new.

I was sitting at a light waiting to turn onto the freeway when I heard 3 beeps. They were the same sound and length of when you need gas but 3 of them. Not other lights were on but the ABS (which has been on) and the SRS (and that's ALWAYS on ). Whenever the ABS light has been coming on there were no beeps. The CEL was not on. Everything worked fine and I never heard them again.

Any ideas as to what this could be..?

i dunno, but maybe one of your abs sensors are broken and at the time, it wasnt sending any signal so that car thought that wheel was locked up.

I'm assuming it has something to do with the ABS. As I was sitting at the light I rolled forward a bit to make sure I was going to move and I hit the brakes to make sure I would stop... everything was working just fine. I guess they'll be able to tell me when I do my brakes... hopefully!

You could be a little low on brake fluid in the resevior. The level may have just past the sensors safe level. Give that a check and don't go chasing any beetles up the freeway.

Niki--

3 random beeps and a flash of the ABS light, as well as the brake light and battery light means there's a short to ground. the most common culprit because the abs system gets its power from the fusebox (located on top of the battery) is a melting fusebox. my suggestion is this: pop the hood and inspect the fusebox. if it shows ANY signs of melting or abnormal wear, park the car, get it TOWED, and have that replaced. most times people ignore the beeps as just a random quirk--99.9% of the time it's a bad ground related to a bad fusebox.

my 2004 jetta did that once--i pulled over just in time to see my fusebox melted and within millimeters of becoming jetta barbecue. it's a VERY common problem on all jettas and pre-2002 nb's to have fusebox issues. it's nothing to do with low brake fluid at all--the BRAKE light would tell you that. it's a bad ground somewhere.

(oops, forgot to log karen out and i'm not about to retype it)

Thanks for the advice SSNOLA- I'll check that out. But... chasing Beetles on the freeway is my job.

And Justin... which brake light and battery light are you talking about? The only lights that were on were the ABS (which pops on and off randomly since last week) and the SRS light that is always on and has been for about a year and a half now... there's nothing wrong with my airbags either... just a faulty wiring job or something in there somewhere.

Where is this fusebox so I can check it out? Under the little flap that covers the battery?

Hope you figure this out Niki... I did my brakes here in Pasadena, Steve's Independent Volkswagen Repair. Actually found this place by searching the forums here before I even registered!! Needed the timing belt done. Really good work and honest less than the Stealership!!!
