Default Doors are not un-locking like they should..

My wifes 2000 2.0 new beetle doesnt seem to unlock the drivers side door.. The light wont even turn on when opened.. The alarm does arm, but doesnt lock or arm the drivers side door..

any ideas?

Could it be the comfort control module under the dash??

Anything else?

-Jordan

OK, you seem to have conflicting info here..

Unlock not working with remote? Will it unlock if you put the key in the keyhole and turn it? If you hold it while turned, do the windows go down OK?

The first place I'd look is the micro-switch inside the door latch. You can go about replacing it 2 ways.. $3 PITA fix it yourself, or $150 replace the whole latch assembly + installation of you farm it out.

I chose the micro-switch because you are saying the light doesn't turn on upon door opening.. (you did check the bulb, right?)

Ok..

First, the car has manual windows so no way to tell if they go down...

- When the key is in the door lock, you can manually lock the door by turning the key.

- When you use the key-fob, it will lock the passanger door, and arm the car, but not the drivers door

-LIGHT by Door lock IS ON and BLINKING..

-You cannot lock the door from inside the car by the power door lock switch, only the passanger side will lock or unlock.

-car will not recognise that the door has been opened when opened. No light turn on, no beeps, no alarm, but when you open the passanger side, the alarm will go off, and the light will turn on..

-Car used to lock flawlessly, then slowely, it started to lock once in awhile, then not at all..

-Both keys do the same thing

Lemme know if this helps.. Everything else works flawlessly..

Thanks. -jordan

Sorry for assuming you had electric windows.. my bad..

OK, so it's not a mechanical probem...

OK, so to clear this up.. the remote will lock/unlolck the passenger door only. If driver is locked, it will not unlock, and if unlocked will not lock, using remote.

The little red one, right? This indicates the alarm is armed. If it does not go out, something is telling the car "hey, my driver door is locked" that would be the micro-switch inside the latch mechanism.

Hmm.. maybe one of the wires inside the door at the switch came undone or is broken? Or the lock switch is bad?

If the car thinks the door is shut, again, the micro-switch does that.

Maybe as the switch started wearing out?

As would be expected if nothing was wrong with one of the remotes.

I hope this helps you..

Anybody else got an idea on this one?

OK, my personal experience with this issue.. my driver door micro-switch went bad. How did I know? Sometimes when I made a right turn, the interior lights would come on as if a door has been opened, yet no doors were open. Then the car stopped recognising when the driver door was shut. My Alientech window controller stopped working some of the time because it needed to have the driver door open and then shut in some cases. I tired the $3.00 fix. It was moderatley difficult, and it only lasted me about a year. I ended up buying a new latch mechanism from the dealer and installed it myslef. No problems since.

This seems to be an ongoing problem with a lot of our cars.. this issue pops up at least once a month on here.

I have the same issue. With mine I lock with the key fob, which usually locks the passenger door, then I unlock and lock again and it seems to do both doors.

When I get round to looking at it I think it'll be a reasonably easy fix. Either something needs replacing or adjusting.

Has to be the microswitch in the door lock mechanism as mentioned!
So, why not bypass the microswitch. Identify which wires the microswitch open/closes, instal an old fashioned push button door jamb operated switch to do the switching.
Electrical shops carry door courtesy switches in packs that are fully adjustable to suit any circumstance.
Or, to avoid even removing the door trim, identify what colour the microswitch wires are, break into the door to A pillar wiring and wire a switch in between the door and the door jamb - either magnetic with a reed switch or straight mechanical.
More than one way to skin a cat.
