Default Stuck Cassette Tape

Hey, before I just replace my stock stereo I thought I'd ask if anyone around here knows a way to get a stuck tape out of the player? It was working fine one minute and then just wouldn't eject the next. Any ideas? Other than that it works fine, so I don't want to replace it if I don't have to! Thanks!

Unless you can stick your finger in and reseat the cassette I'd say the only way is to remove the player and then take the top off. It may have been caused by a loop in the tape or dirt buildup on the capstan wheel. If it was playing OK just before you tried to eject then the finger trick may work. Other than that you can insert a slim knife blade or similar and try to slide it under the cassette but generally this method results in damage to the player. Good Luck.

In my bug and in my first car...

I thought maybe I was just cursed with cassette tapes!
I was going to try the knife thing, I just dont want to mess up and make my entire sterio not work.

Lots of people use the tape deck. Old school to be sure, but it works.
Vinal records too!

Cassettes or tapes were the same price as CDs when they first came out.....now that CDs rule, secondhand tapes are a dime a dozen - you can buy whole collections of your favourite muso for next to nothing from people who have upgraded to a CD player.
CD players also fail and are not as easy to fix.

I have to say i'm with Toadman here. In this digital age, the cassette deck is obsolete as far as a truly reliable media source.

To anyone using the cassette deck still....iPod users too...if you can't get the proper wiring hookup....invest in an FM modulator. It's cheap, easy, and works. I have my XM go through one and it's fantastic.

Yeah, I use it for the Ipod adapter too. I've gone through 3 FM modulators and none of them worked well. I just couldn't get a clear station all the time. So I went back to rockin' the tape player! Until it ate it.
