Question High rpm for 2007 New Beetle 2.5L Gas

Hi, All,

We just purchased a brand new 2007 New Beetle (2.5L, normal gas) 2 days ago.

Every morning (or whenever the engine is cold) when we started the car, the engine produced high rpm. In the rpm meter it reads 1500-2000 rpm. And it will keep like that for about 20-25 seconds. On the same time it makes some noise (you can imagine the noise with engine running at 1500 rpm). After 30 seconds the engine goes back to nomal, about 600 rpm.

Is this normal for a brand new New Beetle?

Thanks,

Helen & Michael

I would think that is excessive and a bit more than normal. My 1.8T only picks up about 400 extra RPM or so when starting up cold.

This is normal for the 2.5. I've had an '06 and currently own an '07 and mine revs pretty high for the first 25 seconds or so then calms right down. It's also pretty noisy for the first few seconds. I always wait to start driving until the RPM meter is down to normal, only takes about 20-30 seconds and lets the fluids start moving around

Wow. Interesting. You wouldn't want to put it in gear right away then with an automatic.

our manual says wait 1-2 mins before, and then a 1 minute cool down in park or stopped, before shutting off key
