Talking Do they still float?

Back in the day, Beetles could float. I live on the water and my husband and nephew have volunteered to drive it off the pier to test the theory but unfortunately, I had to turn them down. What do you guys think?

I think it's a good idea you didn't let them.

The answer is no, they don't float anymore. And they make very expensive anchors.

IF you ever get a chance to watch the Monster Garage where they did the Swamp Boat New Beetle you'd see that even with a huge amount of work to plug holes and add foam it still sinks.

The OB's were also much lighter....

I cringed when I saw that Monster Garage with the New Beetle.

The old beetles were never designed to float (unlike their cousin the Schwimmwagen!). It simply had too many holes in it. But it was a remarkably well-sealed vehicle, and they had been known to float for a long time.

New Beetles? Turn tail-up and sink like a rock.

Saw a Schwimmwagen at Waterfest last year exactly like that. It was Really freaking cool! On the rear sticking up is the fold-down propellor and inside it has rudder controls and junk. It's really unique.

I heard about a NB that ended up in a river. It was molested by 3 turtles before they could fish it out.
