Default Factory Security Alarm Problem Question

I have a 99 2L GLS Bug.

Here is the problem. With "Daisy" parked and locked, the alarm system will just randomly "go off". It has done this a few time now and I have witnessed it. Each time there has NOT been anyone around it or even near it, it just enables the horn blowing, light flashing etc. This continues for several minutes and then disables itself.

Has anyone had a problem with this before?
Could it be a sensor or something else?
Suggestions are welcome please as how to fix this before it runs down my battery or something else.

Thanks------

Only guessing here, but it sounds like one of the micro-switches inside the door latch mechanism is (going) bad. Probably making the car think a door is opening, thus setting off the alarm. Are there any other goofy things happening, lights coming on while driving? Chimes while driving?

Could be a faulty door sensor, but also check the battery in your key fob.

hey thanks so much. I have heard this "dinging" noise. Sorry for lack of termonology. This sound is not associated with low gas sound, or any other gauge lighting up, etc. but is something that happens also randomly. It chimes or dings about 15 to 30 times and stops. This sound is like a door open chiming.

I wonder if these two things are associated with eachother?

can solve the key fob thing right now. I don't have the
"fob" part of our key. It costs out the A** and did not come with the car when we purchased her. I would have more in the key than car!!!!!!

We have a shock sensor added to the NBC so that when thumped on the body or like some climb in through the open roof. It will not go off if someone reaches through the open roof and remove the GPS or radar detector if it's within reach.

One day, we were shopping at a local mall, while it was quite windy but sunny. When we finshed at the mall, we heard the familiar beeping alarm. Like you, the alarm was mysterious so I called the alarm manufacturer who installed the shock sensor. They told me that the wind will shake the open car enough to set the alarm off. With the roof up, it is less likely to set the alarm off.

Courious question: we bought the 03 NBC as a 'preloved' car from VW. Did they sell you the alarm package (shock sensor) or did you get the factory auto disable and radio kill only? Our package came with an insurance for theft of car but not loose items inside the car IF the roof is down.

I would say yep.

You can do a $3.00 PITA repair on the switch. I would not recommend if you are not handy with a dremel tool, wiring and disassembling small parts. You cannot get just the switch from VW, you can only get the whole latch assembly at about $150. I have done both repairs myself to the same door, and I can say that changing out the latch assembly was much easier.

PM me if you want help with either method.

The dinging sound you hear when driving is more than likely the door open chime. If so your lights shoudl come on too, if you have them set to come on when the door opens. If that is it then you have a faulty door switch and that would cause your alarm to be set off.
