Default Engine Oil For 1.8t

Any harm in using a pure synthetic 10w-30 instead of the 5w-30 for summer driving on a 1.8T?

If you're spending the dough for pure synth why not just by Mobil One's 0W-40? Lots of peeps here swear by it.

I have been using Mobil 1 pure synth .. usually 0W30 but have gone back to 5W30 since some folks that use it get better gas mileage ... you wouldn't think it from the thicker oil. For a while I would do 0 in the winter and 5 in the summer. If you are in the south you probably can pull of 10W in the summer.

Here's the deal, as embarassing as it is. I just got the car a few days ago. I stopped by Walmart today and had the oil changed with mobil 1. I had glanced at the owners manual a few days ago, and swore it said 10-w-30. I had them do it. Shortly after getting out of Walmart, I second guessed myself, and checked out the manual again. Ooops! I'd have bet $100 on it too, I was so sure. So, what's the verdict? Any VW mechanics out there that can answer for certain? Thanks again!
Sincerely,
Stupid.

I think you are worrying over nothing. Mobil 1 will be great.

Switched out the 10w-30 for the 5w-30 last night. I saved the 1 day old 10w-30 for the wife's van. (We run mobil 1 10w-30 in that anyway.) Thanks guys! Chris

The 10W-30 full synthetic works fine due to it's superior circulatory charactoristics over organic oils, however, I would suggest staying with the factory recommended 5W-30 oil.

Unless you live in a geographical area that is very cold, zero weight oils are not necessary nor are they recommended.

The brand of oil used is up to each individual, I only use Redline or Royal Purple full synthetic in my personal car engines.

Huh- Royal Purple. I saw that on the TV the other day and wondered how good and synth oil it was? Good stuff huh?

Royal Purple is a very good engine oil, some would say that Redline and Royal Purple are not as easy to find like some other oils mentioned, remedy: Buy/order a case or two at a time from a local store or order it online and replinish your supply as needed, this way you never run out and you don't have to go searching for it everytime you need to change your oil.

I mostly use Redline and I've used it for a great number of years in multiple vehicle engines but I have logged a lot of miles with Royal Purple and at this point, I personally would not use any synthetic oil other than the two I mentioned above.
