Default Fuel Door Switch Not Working?

Hello, The door switch for our Fuel-door doesn't work, I have to open the trunk and pull the cable manually, Is there a fuse somwhere for this? Or how would i check the Actuator? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Can you hear the actuator making a noise when you pull the button? If so the cable has just fallen out of the actuator. (Which you know if it lying around)

If you cannot hear the actuator then its either broken or the electrical connection has come out.

The actuator is easy to get to when you open the boot and remove some trim on the right hand side. If still no luck check the electrical connection on the button end behind the door card.

I had trouble with mine a while ago and all I did was put a drop of oil between the cable and the sleave on the cable between the actuator and the fuel door.

Easy job worse case scenerio you need a new actuator - good luck

Thx for the Reply, No I don't hear any noise when I pull the switch, So I'll Follow your Advice and Check the connections.

Also If I need Parts Like this, Is there a Decent Place to Order them, Besides the Dealership? Will Any parts Store Like Autozone carry these?

Question fuel lid switch isn't working here...

I was wondering if you got this matter fixed. I am having the same issue but was wondering if you had to replace cables or actuator, or if you just needed to change out a fuse. Please let me know. Thanks.

If you don't hear the actuator, chances are, it's the switch.

Very quick, cheap and easy fix.

If you can hear the actuator, but it still doesn't pop, then it's probably the cable.

Shortly after I had bought my used beetle and took it to Volkswagen for maintenance, or repairs, I don't remember, I told them i wanted to know why the gas door didn't pop open when I hit the button. The one I talked to told me if it doesn't work it's either the actuator or the cable. He said if I were to pay to get the cable replaced so it pops open, that I would be wasting my money as far as labor and cable cost. This was in WV. Anyway, I said don't worry about it. He said after you open it so many times, the cable goest bad anyway because of the way it was placed throughout the car from the front to the trunk area where it connects to the door. So I use a little keychain card to pry it open. Only problem I have is in winter when it's froze shut! Good luck if you are still having problems with it!

I am having an "intermittent" problem with mine....It only works part of the time....today, I had to push the button about 20 times before it finally opened up the fuel door. I didn't hear the actuator make its noise until the last time....Would that probalby be the switch? I guess since it's intermittent it could be either...How would I go about checking to see if my switch is bad? Seems reasonable that might be the bad piece...Any help on how I can check the switch, and/or where I can get a new one would be helpful.

Thanks,

Martin
