Default Washer keeps blowing fuse

I replaced my cruise control switch along with the wiper / washer switch on my 2000 1.8T. It ends up that the wiper switch wasn't exactly the right one. It was for a car with a rear wiper. It worked fine until I pushed it forward, which blew the fuse for the wipers. I then went back and replaced it with the old switch (that worked when I took it out). Now whenever I try to use the washer, it blows the fuse for the wipers and washer. I checked the switch and the contacts appear to be making up properly according to my ohm meter. The leads to the motor read about 11K ohm, but it still is blowing fuses. Anyone have any ideas??

I've never posted, but have gotten a lot of help here from searching the forums and this is one thing that I can't find in any searches.

Only thing I can think of is that somehow a wire either got pinched or chafed during initial replacement allowing it to short out when the switch arm is moved forward or in a way that allows the chafed wire to earth out.
Good Luck.

Well, I would have thought that, but the washer fluid worked with the "wrong" switch until I pushed it forward, at which point I heard a "POP" and the fuse blew. I might have repositioned a relay or something that goes to ground. I checked the wiring harness and it looks good.

I fixed it!! I guess it could have been a coincidence, but apparently the washer pump motor shorted. I checked the wire resistance across the motor at the switch and it was 0 ohm. I pulled the pump and rotated it by hand. I then hooked it up to a battery with jumper wires and it spun. I put it back in and it worked great. I thought this would help out someone else with the same problem.
