Default Engine codes

Newbie question:

My engine is a 2.0. What is the engine code for this engine and the others available on the new beetles?

Thanks

What year is your 2.0L?

(Ganked from RB Publishing)
# 1.8 Liter 4-Cyl. 5V Turbo (engine codes: APH, AWP, AWV, BKF, BNU)
# 1.9 Liter 4-Cyl. 2V TDI (engine codes: ALH, BEW)
# 2.0 Liter 4-Cyl. 2V (engine codes: AEG, AVH, AZG, BDC, BEV, BGD)

On the 2.0L, the 1998-2000 (some 2001) were AEG, while the AVH and AZG were in the 2001-2005 coupe models. The 2003-2004 NBC had the BDC and BEV 2.0Ls.

1998-2003 TDI is ALH, 2004+ BEW.

1999-2001 1.8T APH, 2001.5-2005 AWV, 2002-2004 Turbo S AWP, 2003-2005 NBC 1.8T BKF and BNU.

Or so I think.

Hey Thanks Des!

Mine is a 2002. Why are there so many different engine codes for the 2.0? Have any idea what's different between these?

Thanks

The AEG 2.0L is drive-by-cable, meaning there is actually a physical link between the throttle plate and the accelerator pedal. The later A-code 2.0Ls are drive-by-wire (small motor turns the throttle plate). B-code 2.0Ls were designed for the NBC, as they have balance shafts to help smooth it out a bit, they also have a little more torque.

Here's another Engine question:

My engine code on the sticker in the trunk says AVH, yet I happen to see a placard on the timing belt cover that says "Caution for test and adjustment pay attention to the motor number AZG 071956"

What gives??
