Also... while I post this one issue,I might as well address another..
The interior lights no longer turn on when you open the drivers door.I been dealing with this issue for like 2 months now..The interior lights will come on when you unlock the car via remote. But as soon as the lights cycle off,and the drivers door is open the interior lights stay off. Also the car will "relock" itself as the door has'nt been opened. While not a big thing,I might as well get some insight on it. I have a feeling after the new year I am going to be ripping apart my Beetle LOL Thanks again all! |

As for your interior light not coming on when the door opens....Are you sure that somebody hasn't flipped the 3-position switch on the mirror? The switch should be in center position. That's what it sounds like to me.
As for the doors relocking.....When you use the keyfob to unlock the doors, if you don't open a door within X seconds, the door will relock. That's the way it's programmed. |

Hmmmmm...I had something similar a few weeks back. My door would NOT lock (usually). The red led would show that it locked, but you could open it from the outside. Sometimes the alarm would go off. The window would also "studder", indicating that it wasn't sure if the door was open or not. (it's a convertible). The dealer replaced the lock acctuator module and it has been fine.
As I see it, your bug doesn't realize that the door is open, so it won't turn on the light. The attempt to lock itself is further indication that the car thinks the door is closed. I bet it's one of those sensors, but not sure which one. The dealer can hook up to it and tell you exactly which one is bad. |

Looks like I'll take a trip to the local VW dealer this week...With my work schedule god knows when I can look/work on my own vehicle.
Any clues on the spoiler? That's really making me a little upset. It's my favorite thing about the car! ![]() |

My spoiler does that every once in awhile. There is a switch under the dash. Feel around with your left hand. It will make some racket while the spoiler is resetting itself, but once the light goes out, all should be fine.

The light issue might be your drivers side door lock sensor... thats pretty normal on beetles
![]() I never fixed mine, but I make sure to always check that I turned off my lights, since it no longer "chimes" The dealership said it would be about 350 to fix, but I know Danny Arizona re did his for under 100, its just a PITA to get the door panel off.

Breez.. That's exactly what it is. I was talking to my brother(ex- Ford Tech) and he told me that was the issue. $350 at the dealer whew! I'll be repairing that myself eventually.
Thanks soo much!! BlueBaby2,thanks again.. I appreciate your post on here and the vortex. I hit the switch this morning on the way to work, and for now everything seems in working order. |

Regarding the door lock microswitch, I replaced mine a few years ago with a $3 part from Radio Shack. http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=77648 Unfortunately the picture links are dead. Some say that fix goes bad after a few months but it's been working fine for me. If you rather replace it with a new part, you'll need to replace the entire door latch mechanism which will run you around $150+ just for the part!
Here's another thread which guides you through removal of the door panel in order to get to the latch mechanism. http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1015107 Procedure is the same for the Beetle as it is for a Jetta. |
