I just changed my oil last night on my 1.8t 2002 NB, and noticed when I held onto the bottom of the bumper that the rad is not sitting on anything and I can shift it back and fourth very easily and some up and down. Is the rad and fan assembly supposed to be loose, some sort of floating system like the exhaust on some cars to avoid cracks in the piping?? Where does the rad bolt to and can't see it? I also have a thunk sound when I go over certain bumps and a loose rad at the front of the car could sound like that too.

My book says to "detach the lock carrier panel and the radiator mounting bolts" - so that indicates there is a panel that surrounds the radiator and bolts go thru the panel and radiator clamping it to the body. So if its loose then its in danger of damage.
Sorry I cannot be of more help. |
