Hi folks i am new to this forum and hoping some of you can help me.

1st we have a 98 beetle (gas) and i purchased some chrome rims that were removed from a VR6 Jetta they are 16x7 5 bolt i bought these rims and had some new rubber mounted now i went to put on bug and the stud holes in the rim are not large enough to tkae the factory studs on the beetle i have some odd stash of studs so i tried off vehicle and the ones on the car are 14x1.5 i tried a loose 12x1.5 and it slides though hole.
1st question was i told a fib could these not have ben on a VR6

2) what is the fix? can i drill out the hole in the aluminim rims would not take much

any help would be great money is tight i bought these for my wife she loves them and as well i sepnd the money and had the rubber already installed on them

You could drill out the rims, but I'd have a machinst do it. You WILL NOT drill straight; I'd even wager you'd be hard pressed to make it happen even w/a drill press.

Also, there might be temp-related issues with drilling, maybe it needs to be liquid cooled while that's done. (but you're just reaming the edges, so I could be wrong.)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure all vw's use 14x1.5
. Take a CLOSE look at the 'cup' of the hole, is it conical, or bowl shaped? Make sure your new bolts match.

Any distinctive markings on the rim indicated VW or Audi?

And parting thought ... maybe it was a MODIFIED VR6 jetta... w/different hubs or something. Are they supposed to be stock?

You can drill out the lug holes, or have it done by a wheel/machine shop. Or, you can convert the car to use wheel studs.

Mk3's may use a 12mmx1.5mm bolt, so the wheels would be right for a Mk3, but not your MK4.
