Default Odd fill up

I ran my car to vapors the other day. I'm not sure what the fuel tank capacity is, but i put exactly 16 gallons of gas in my car. usually i stop around 14 gallons when it is empty, but i was amazed that i could put 16 gal. in my tank. Has anyone else been able to put that much in their tank, or is that its actual capacity?

15 gallons I think is what the spec sheet says, I'm sure that's not exact; 15.3, 15.5 would be assumable.

You must have filled up the neck and the evaporator canister as well.

That's weird. Bugs have a 14.5 gallon tank. Must have been especially thirsty!

Here's my theory.

The sadistic US oil cartels, changed every pump to short us the actual "gallons" we pay for, to read 1.5 gallons, but really only 1 gallon. This way, they can reap 600% profit, instead of the paltry 500%.

what about the 'correction' to certain temperature? (15oC here) I know some states have it, some don't. Or that particular pump mas not properly calibrated. You should bring that to the company's attention, and maybe they'd give you some money or vouchers to keep your business.

If you have the receipt and evidence of the size of the fuel tank, definitly less than 16 gal, I would contact whatever state agency is in charge of "service" stations and fuel pumps.

I believe you have somehow been ripped off.

If it was warm, you should put less gas into your car, not more.

You got taken for between 8 to 10 bucks. Just think how many others have had the same experience at that place.

i agree, but it was in the morning around 70 degrees in Jacksonville last sunday. Everyone is constantly being ripped off by the gas stations, so I'm not going to make a fuss about it.

I will post my milage when i empty the tank, i think that i have close to a 5/8 of a tank and around 180 miles. i usually get around 350 to 400 miles per tank, so we'll see what happens.

Do remember it is a violation of state/fed law if fuel pumps are artificially incorrect. There was a recent case of purposal fuel station theft in Georgia.

But it sounds probable you filled the filler neck. TDI'ers do this a lot.

Doesn't the reserve add a gallon and a half to the 14.5 standard?

So I finally used my 16 gallons and at half tank i was around 250 miles, but when the tank was empty, I got 400 miles

So, 400/16=25mpg, I'll take that
