Question Random Stalls

Hello all,

I have a new intermittent weird stalling problem I can't seem to solve....its happened three times to me so far.

When pulling into parking spots or slowing down for a stop sign the engine stalls. I just recently put in a new timing belt, water pump, MAF, spark plugs, all new fluids....its been maintained.

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance, you have been very helpful in the past!
Matt

May be that the fuel filter needs changed.

Sounds like the timing is off, perhaps a cam and/or crank sensor? Or a coil? Any CEL Codes?

I changed the fuel filter last month, so I don't think thats it, and it hasn't thrown any codes....I'll go check the timing (its likely to be off because I changed the timing belt myself).

Thank you!

stalls and dies or stalls and saves itself? check your crank position sensor..there is a resistance test that can be done to see if that is what is bad..i can look it up in bentley if you want

Surely you could pull the codes, must be an error somewhere...

When my car was running rough I had the o2 sensor replaced.

It has misfiring codes. They were pulled about a year ago. I think cyl 2.

do you have a hesitation at any other point? i feel like mine will cut at low rpms but quickly regain. mine has also stalled twice today pulling up to stop signs. first time i questioned whether i had clutch in. second time i was like WTF! i threw a code a few weeks ago that said i was running rich. that was tested with a vagcom. where would i start to clean or change parts? i'm only getting 200 miles out of a tank of gas also.

Too many directions.....SIMPLY put, its your crank sensor 100%. VERY typical. Once replaced the engine will feel very smooth again. Whenever the Beetle has these symptoms replace the crank position sensor, and no it will not throw codes, odd isn't it? A critical electrical component that never puts a code into the computer. Lots of oops missed that one in the VW rush to produce. It happens in all models right across the range. Replaced mine in a 1.8t 2002 NB and the car pulls and feels like I just drove it off the lot new. Enjoy!! Shouldn't fail again for at least 7 years. Make sure you buy the Bosch one it lasts the longest.
