Question What seems to be electrical problems

Hello all,

I came to this forum to discuss the following issues specifically:

I just bought my car about a month ago, its an '03 NB Turbo S (Manual). I LOVE this car, but its been giving me problems lately.

When I bought it, I had the battery case replaced when I bought it because it was cracked and the lid was swinging around while driving.

Could be a coincidence but after that the problems started.

First, my car stalled at a traffic light. Just turned off. Turned back on ok, but all systems were restarted -- time turned back to 0, trip meter to 0, radio stations lost, etc.

Then the battery on the main key kept shorting out Replaced it 3 times. The 3rd time I put the key in the ignition and the alarms all went off, could not get them to shut off for at least 15 minutes.

Brought car to dealer. They ran a diagnostic test. No codes. Reprogrammed the key. Drove it off the lot, everything was fine for about 30 minutes.

Parked car. Went to turn it back on. WOULD NOT turn over. Took key out of ignition. ALL the lights started going on and off, without key in ignition. That includes healdlights, dash lights, interior light. Radio fliickered on and off saying "SAFE" and then "1000" over and over. Spoiler went in and out. Remote lock and trunk would not work. Putting the key in the ignition did nothing. The forementioned occured at least 15 minutes in length.

After 30 minutes the car started, but the lights flickered off and on as I drove.

Any ideas as to what might be going on? Unfortunately it's a weekend, and I just moved 2000 miles from home. It would be nice to have a reliable car in a new city.

Any help or ideas would be much appreciated!! Thanks!

You first mentioned battery work. I would double check the main battery connections, as well as all the connections to the fuse panel on top of the battery. If they are loose, they will wreck havoc on your car, including loss of all presets.

The radio reading 1000 is the safety code entry. The code should be in the front page of the radio section of your manual. If the dealer prep person did his/her job right at the time it was first sold, the code should also be on a sticker in the spare tire wheel well. The manual has instructions on how to enter the code. But, if you need help with that, just message back and I, or someone else, will provide instructions.

Thanks for the tip! I did a visual inspection and things seem ok but maybe a wire got crossed somewhere or one that I can't see is loose. I'm not really handy with cars (yet, but I want to learn!) so on monday I will bring it in and have it double-checked. It would be so great if it's just something simple.
