Default Need help with battery

I changed the battery on my wife's beetle but now the key only sets off the alarm when I stry to start it. Is there a way that I can get the key to work again or do I need to take it into a dealer? Please tell me there is something I can do!! Thanks in advance.

Jimmy

Of the top of my head I do not know; however putting a new battery into an NB should not affect the key; I have changed batteries in my '98 and '00 without incident.

Unfortunately the dealer is your only choice to resolve key related issues.

Maybe he means the key battery. But if its the car battery then maybe the NB is fitted with an aftermarket immobiliser/alarm OR an aftermarket radio and they may be causing the problem. An auto electrician would be cheaper than the VW dealer!
We're on our second NB and neither have had alarms fitted but maybe thats only for Australian NB's.

Well let's hope it is just the "key battery", as that would be the cheapest fix; just in case, here is a link regarding key replacements, the expensive way... http://www.vw.com/myvw/yourcar/smartkey/en/us/
