Question Fuel gauge pointing at 6 o'clock after jump start and new battery -- what is this??

My battery died today, i got a jump start and drove it to Sears to get a new battery installed. As I was driving home I realized my gas gauge was pointing at the fuel pump picture (the very bottom of the gauge). When I turn the car off, the gauge reads around 1/2 a tank when it should go to E. As soon as I restart, it's back to the 6 o'clock position at the bottom of the dial.

I've read in other forums to restart the engine a few times -- I have done this with no luck.

I do not know if the gauge was messed up after the jump start or after the new battery. Has anyone experienced this? Or have any advice?

Talking Fixed itself

If anyone out there experiences this - no need to worry! It took my car about 18 hours to reset, but now the fuel gauge is working properly.
