I have the 2003 Turbo S - after reading a thread on here about electrical things not working properly (for me it's the passenger window and lock that suddenly don't work), I thought I should check connections (they are OK) and fuses. BUT the Germans put a card with a bunch of symbols on it for each fuse - but no place is there a translation for what those sympbols mean. Most are obvious, but there are some that are not and of course that would be the one for the passenger window. Does anyone know what all of the symbols mean and is there a place one can go to find out? did I miss it in the Owners Manual? help. I am trying to avoid a several hundred dollar visit to a dealer. It seems logical that it would be a fuse. thanks.

The driver's side door on my girlfriend's 2001 NB has never had working interior lights and the car doesn't know when the door is opened (if that makes any sense).
We are thinking it might be fuse #14 that is the culprit. If someone could confirm this for us, we would greatly appreciate it. Thanks! Dave & Emily Last edited by Isotope Green; 03-09-2009 at 08:55 PM.. |

I don't think that is the problem. If the fuse was out, a number of functions would not be available, e.g. all the interior lights.
Instead, I think you have a problem with the imfamous door microswitch problem: inside the door lock, there are three small switches soldered to a circuit board. These switches tell the comfort module about the status of the door and lock. Due to temperature changes, the solder joint of the switches crimp and creep and eventually they tear apart. Then the status of the door is no longer known to the control unit. This results in the behavoiur you describe: no lights when opening the door, relocking of the door and also the fuel pump won't preset before starting the car. Solution? Either a rather expensive door lock module switch at the dealership, or a slightly complex DIY taking the module out and resolder the lock joints. |

Thanks for the detailed explanation of the issue. It sounds terribly complicated, I don't think we have the collective soldering experience to tackle this. Might have to get our mechanic to price the repair out and go from there.

I have a 2006 N.B. The alarm started going off last night when it was parked/locked. I changed the key fob battery, checked the main battery voltage, alternator etc. all OK.
NOW the Volks. shop has it at $117 just to further diagnose the problem. OUCH! Does anyone know about all the door contacts? Where they are? etc ? |
