Default Hatch won't stay open

Hey....
Unfortunately, I have another question for you guys...

I opened my hatch tonight to grab something, and as I was looking for what I needed, *THUD* the hatch fell back down on to my head!

It has been cold here the last few weeks, like -20 to -30 every day, SO i'm hoping that's what the problem is, maybe something is just too frozen and can't isn't holding the trunk up, but does anyone have some ideas about why my hatch isn't holding itself up?

Thanks!!

it probably needs new gas struts. They shouldn't cost too much.

What he said.

They do seem to lose effectiveness as they age, and it is definitely noticeable in cold climes.

Alright, thanks everyone.
When the weather warms up will they begin to work again, or are they done?

They may begin to work again. Or not. Just depends on how they are feeling when the weather warms up.

Mine get kind of lazy in the cold. They don't quite hold up the hatch and sometimes the hatch will fall on me. I've learned to keep my hand on the hatch when I have it up.

Similarly, I have issues with the latch on the hatch not releasing the hatch on the first click of the fob. I usually have to do it twice before the latch releases and I can lift the hatch. All of this only occurs in cold weather.
