I recently took my NB into get the brakes done and got a huge suprise. The quote was $1500. One of the front & one of the back calipers are bad. This warped my roaters and they need to be replaced too. Has anyone else experienced this? Would a certified VW shop be able to use a repair kit to fix the calipers?

Did they offer you a complimentary bottle of Astroglide? Get your car away from those scammers now. That is a ridiculous price for brake work. To give you an idea of how much these parts REALLY cost...check out the links below. Yes it is to a TDI-related site...doesn't matter though. All A4 chassis brakes are the exact same with the exception of Turbo S NB, or performance GLI or GTI Jetta/Golf brakes.
Labor shouldn't be more than 1 hour per axle for a competent mechanic. And that is if the calipers do indeed need replacing...they don't in most cases. So for discussions sake, let's just say a shop needs 3 hours to do the job. 3 hours at $90 hourly shop rate (most areas are less than this). That is $270 labor. $10 brake fluid, $20 shop supplies, $390 in parts as listed below. So...being very generous and rounding...I come up with a grand total of $690. Would you mind telling me where you're located? I may be able to point you in the direction of a competent mechanic who can do the job right and not bend you over at the same time. Rear brake set (rotors, pads) $69.95 Front brake set (rotors, pads) $99.95 Front caliper $118/ea, rear caliper $98/ea

Check this list out for a mechanic near you. Just because they primarily do TDI-related work doesn't mean they can't help you out.
