Default Turn Signal Problem, wearing through hazard switches

so, about 4 weeks ago, my turn signals and 4-ways stopped working...just a few days prior to complete failure, the ticking sound would sporadically sound even if I was NOT using the turn signals. So it died and long story short, i replaced the hazard switch. I figured it wasn't a fuse because my 4-ways still flashed when I locked/unlocked the car.

NOW---it's started with the random ticking again and I am wondering if everything will stop working again??? Has anyone else had this problem? I really hate to go down to the dealer and replace the switch again - $30 extra a month for a new switch is gonna add up!! Any recalls??

I just need help!!!!!

Perhaps you'd have gotten a better response with a more appropriately named thread?

parts you purchase through the dealership should come with a 12mo warranty. Contact them and replace the switch again, on their dime.

Maybe it was just a faulty one from the factory. Yes I think it'll die out again. (Maybe it's something wearing out the hazard relay, I don't know, but it's a possibility maybe.)

Also I changed your thread title from "Help me please!!". Maybe someone that knows something about turn signals or electrical relays will see the topic and stop to help.

You are describing a failed contact in the turn signal stalk. You know the stick you move to activate the turn signal. It is NOT the hazard relay switch. I had this happen a while back and it is most common on late 2001 and 2002 New Beetles. I dismantled the turn signal stalk and repaired the copper contacts inside. The copper deteriorates and makes crumbs of metal in there, if you clean the copper out and flip the contacts over it will work like new again. It is simple and I have never had a problem again, that was like three years ago so stop buying hazard switches.

Looks like instead of continuing here MATTSBUG started a new thread here: turn signal failure - take 2

Please use the new thread, I'll close this old one.
