Default ARRGH! Convertible top problem?

Newbie back again. We took our inaugural ride with the top down - lots of fun EXCEPT for one problem; everytime we started to drive the car from a stopped position we would hear a beeping noise that would go away once we reached around 20MPH. I noticed on the dash part above the windshield the convertible symbol was blinking. I read the O.M. & thought maybe it was the top not being all the way down so we put it back up & brought it down again until it sounded like the top was all the way down & tried to drive the car again - same problem, a beeping sound as soon as we started to movw until around 20MPH.
Anyone know why we may be getting this beeping sound that starts when we start to move & than goes away at say 20MPH? It's very annoying!
BTW, it doesn't happen when the top is up.
TY
Regards,
Jim

A little more info about your car may help, year, manual or auto mechanism? If it is new, it sounds as if a trip to the dealer may be ahead of you.

I had that problem once...the top was being finicky. even though it seemed all the way down and made the "i'm down" noise, i had to hold the switch for about five more seconds or so, all the while listening to the "I'm down, stop hitting the switch!" noise and then all of the sudden it moved just a teeeeeny bit more..problem solved.

hope your issue is this easily resolved! i get so so sad when i cant ride with the top down on the car!

Sorry. Next time I'll add more info..
Well, I figure it out.
When you press the switch to make the top go down you have to keep holding the switch until the power top motor shuts itself off (I was not doing this - I stopped pressing the switch as soon as the sound of the top coming down changed to a diffrent sound, indicating the top was down - ike on convertibles I've had in the past - the motors never stopped by themselves. Live & learn.
So the top is just fine & the noise has stopped. Yipee!
Thanks so much for your reply!
Regards,
Jim

Having owned numerous convertibles in the past, as a New Beetle Convertible freshman owner I too, had the problem that you describe. In my Dodge or GM convertible forcing the top motor to stall out is a no-no -- so the Service Manager at my dealership had to reassure me that for the New Beetle this is normal operating procedure.
