Default Beetle Car Wreck....R.I.P Tyra

Not sure if this is in the right place but...

Today I hydroplaned on the highway and spun into a guard rail. My beetle, Tyra is pretty beat up....

>

My Concearn is NONE of my airbags deployed??? All 4 of my head lights popped out, severe body damage and I hit the guard rail doing AT LEAST 35mph and NO airbags. If the guardrail wouldn't have stopped me I would have rolled down the hill and been seriously hurt without airbags...luckly that didn't happen.
The cop said they didn't deploy because I git the guard rail at an angle...but I hit it pretty much dead on the front and then the back end slid in to rest of the guard rail.

WHY didn't they deploy? I could have been seriously hurt! I'm thinking of contacting the VW company and threatening to sue them. Also I need to check if the person before me(whom they got into a small accident as well before I bought it) had the airbags removed.

SO OTHER than the airbags being removed...what are the reasons my airbags didn't deploy?!

Sorry to hear about your accident, wow. Judging by your damage it appears you hit the rail obliquely, the airbags will not deploy under that angle of impact. The crash sensors need direct hard impact energy to deploy, like total head-on with a hard object or car, sideways you need to be t-boned right into the door.

At least you are OK.

Your New Beetle sacrificed herself to save your life. Just remember her in that way. Many of my friends here have the same story. I am so sorry to see that accident, but again, you are OK, because of your NB.

Yes, I think airbags need to be hit head on. I am so sorry about Tyra. I am happy about the guard rails!!!!

So glad you are alright!

I've been in a similiar impact accident before in my Nissan and none of the airbags deployed, either- so I guess it is true that the impact has to happen at certain angles.
Sorry about your cute bug!!!
