No, I don't think it's picky? Why would anyone in their right mind think it's picky? I would probably just remove it from the car completely.

Mine is off 10 mph slower. if i go 60, I'm actually going 70. I took it to VW and stated that is nothing they can do about it. It has to be something you can do to fix the problem. Anyone?

Scorpious, I have the same 205/55-16 tires which are Michelin about 50% tread remaining. I just purchased the beetle which is a '99 diesel standard transmission. At 64 mph both GPS units read 70, which also is verified by my truck speedometer which I was traveling with, and 3 construction radar units which I went through on the trip north from Florida. So I am sure the speedometer is off by 6 mph at 64 mph. 50 seems to be 55 actual. I noticed on the fuel nozzle flap that there are two other size tires that are standard for the car. Is there possibly a different drive component for the different size tires, or a different program that should have been loaded into the sensor? I agree that the law isn't going to want to hear that the speedometer is off as an excuse for speeding. There has to be a way other than reducing tire size to bring this back into proper calibration. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
