Default Turn right, turn left - engine dies ??

2006 5cyl 2.5, 6 speed auto, 20K. Here is what often happens.

stop at intersection
light turns green
pull forward 15 - 20 feet then
turn left or turn right to enter cross street
engine "fades"
step on gas a bit more
no response
count to 3 or maybe 5
engines "picks up"
and car suddenly surges ahead

Does not do this if I go straight through the intersection.

Any ideas?
thanks!

Do the rpm's fade; or just the torque? (I wonder if it's a clutch/torque-converter problem; or engine problem.)

The momentum of the turn is affecting the operation of the motor? Off the top of my head check the motor mounts.

Good question. I need to be more observant. Up till now I have been too busy looking at the car behind me rushing up on my rear bumper as I slow down.

Will try to observe ( maybe on an empty parking lot )and report.

............ and re motor mounts. That will be a challenge ( for me anyway) This effect does seem to happen more often the slower I go around the corner though.

When you turn, and try to go forward at the same time, it's alot harder on the motor/transmission. It takes more torque to move from a standstill if you've got the wheels turned. That's kinda where my head's at in trying to assess the situation.

My 2008 with the same set up does the same thing occasionally. Usually after a long run on the highway then an exit, the next time I stop and then accelerate there is maybe 2 seconds on no throttle response. Then it seems to wake up and go. Turning doesn't seem to be part of my problem. Seems to happen in hot weather. I've had the car 18 months and this has happened only half dozen times. It actually happened again today and it is 102 degrees and high humidity.

[QUOTE=SixChuter;562724] ...... Then it seems to wake up and go. QUOTE]

That's a good description !

In my case, I have this happen maybe 2 - 3 times a week.

When it does happen, it repeats for maybe 3 intersection turns ..... and then it goes away.

I have now learned that the tack rpms do NOT rise until the car decides to get up and go.

Once, it behaved this way when stopped on a VERY steep hill.

Replaced 5 ignition coils. Problem has "almost" disappeared. ( go figure)

You can always turbo it

Could be a problem with the steering rack or something in the line for the power steering, causes the engine to bring up backpressure through the power steering system and tells the engine to shut down until pressure is relieved
