How to turn off an airbag?

Hi,
I'm a mom of newborn kid and need to place children car seat into my car.
Probably somebody know how to turn off front seat passenger airbag?

I think you need a VAG-COM for that.

Also, I think there is a certain weight that needs to be in the seat for the airbag to be on. Not sure what that is.

Yes, I can put the car seat into the back seat, bet it is no so easy to do and, of course, better would be to see a child when driving.
If I want to put child chear on front seat, the airbag have to switched off.

I don't think that our air bags can be turned off individually except by disconnection. To disconnect the passenger side bag would be unsafe for any adults riding in your car. It's also very dangerous to fiddle around with any airbag due to it's ability to spontaneously inflate from a static charge of electricity. All repair people should be grounded to the car when any repair work is done. Children are meant to ride in the back seat all the time and especially when they are in a child car seat. Check your local laws regarding children riding in cars and I think you will find that I am correct. Sure, it's a hassle to watch kids in the back seat but it's the safest place they can be. JK

Please put the child in the backseat where he/she belongs. You can get mirrors in the event that you need to see the child in the back seat.

If I'm not mistaken, it's illegal to put a child seat in the front seat of a vehicle. Could be a state to state thing, but here in PA, that's illegal.

Yes, in Latvia there are no restrictions to put child car seat on the front.

what stinks is if you want to move something and put the back seats down you have no way to take your child. I agree the safest place for a kid is the back seat but a switch would be nice for a trip. My husbands car has a switch to turn off the airbag. I personally have airbag phobia and put the seat back as far as possible. I've heard so many stories how they really messed up a person even in a minor accident going as slow as 35 miles per hour.

what year is your bug?? Didn't '04 and up models go to the weight sensing airbag. Does you car have a symbol/light in the center dash between the vents that says "passenger airbag off"... if so, then you need to do nothing.
