Default 3 codes oh my!

So my baby has started acting up.. sometimes when we turn, he stalls and dies But usually starts right back up. He's at about 56xxx miles right now. His CEL is on, and he spouting off a couple of codes:
p1296, p0507, and p1136.
I found the awesome p1296 thread/walkthrough on the coolant temperature sensor. Is this where I need to begin? Any other suggestions on what the other codes might be?
Thanks for any help!

Just some research for you while mooching around the internet:

p1296

Change the coolant temperature sensor straight off. Ensure you buy a new clip and O ring seal with it. Possible some top up G12 coolant from VW in case you lose a bit. Open reservoir cap first to release any pressure then screw it back on tight to stop coolant draining out during the change.

P0507

Quote:
This DTC is more of an informational code, so if there are any other codes set, diagnose them first. If there are no other codes, inspect the intake air system for air or vacuum leaks and damage. If there are no symptoms other than the DTC itself, just clear the code and see whether it returns

P1136 = Long Term Fuel Trim Add. Fuel B1 System Too Lean.

There is likely to be extra air getting into the inlet that is leaning the mixture. As per code P0507 check for leaking/split inlet hoses first. Look especially at the thin black rubber vacuum hoses with cloth braiding on. These deteriorate internally, and split and are worth replacing anway. A length of hose is about $10 probably, cut to fit by yourself.

Keep us posted , Ian

So we're in the middle of changing the cabin air filter and below is what we found. Looks almost like something was living in there, eww...

Default am i missing something?

Ok, so when changing the coolant temp sensor, I noticed this. Should there be something here? I know the pictures are a little fuzzy, but if anyone could tell me that would be great. It's almost like it needs a little hose or something.. However, the car's been running without it, so maybe I'm just making something out of nothing
Thanks for any help!

Ha ha I would guess so !!

The challenge is finding someone with the same engine and having a peek at theirs. Or post your pictures under the right engine based forum rather then general.

If you need more braided hose you get it in 1m lengths from VW. You will need the retaining spring clips as required too.

The open connections could be your vacuum leak codes

Regards, Ian
