Glove Box Problem / Locking System

Hey everyone,

I just got a used 1999 New Beetle and its my first car. But it has some minor issues:

The previous owner broke the Glove box latch. So in order to access the owners manual, I had to stick my finger in in the area where the latch is supposed to be and fidget with the mechanisms inside. I got it open but now it won't close.

Next is the beetle's locking system. I don't have the remote but when I press the lock button, it sounds like its locking and the little tab kind of shifts a bit but it doesnt go down. It really isn't that big of an issue because I can still lock it from the outside manually.

Any suggestions would be awesome.

the glovebox breaking is commin, its all plastic, with too much force it breaks off. you gotta replace the whole thing.

the lock this is what it's supposed to do. its a feature actually. the driver's door will NOT lock when its open. its so you don't lock your keys in the car.
