Hood Latch Help

Help please! Would someone post a clear picture of their hood latch including the hood handle (part at front of hood).

I've reviewed all of the posts and pictures in the old and new forums and they have not been of help to me.

My hood handle is useless. It does not release anything.

I am not sure how the handle is supposed to release the latch. I want to make sure I need to replace the entire latch and not just the handle.

For a 1998 Beetle==If your inside release works, take a coat hanger and straighten it out--bend a right angle about 1 inch long on one end. Then stand on driver's side and hook the secondary release and pull toward you. You can then open the hood. It's quick, easy and works every time!
