Default keyless entry?

I just got a 2003 turbo glx beetle from a used car dealer. He didn't have a remote & said he didn't know if the car had remote entry. Is there any way to tell? Thanks in advance.

All Beetles have remote entry capability. You need to get a key fob and have a VW dealer program it for you. That can be expensive. I haven't had to do this since I purchased my NB new, but many owners have. Someone will offer some advice!

Yeah they all have remote entry. Heck, my '99 has manual windows and still has remote entry!

I'm unsure of how much it costs to get a fob and get it programmed. I don't have an immobilizer so its cheaper for me and I had a fob when I got my car. All cars 2000+ have the immobilizers so its more expensive to get cut and programmed.

Coribug, I see you live near Ft. Collins. I live near Estes Park myself. Do you know a good local source for fobs? I'm also looking for a place that sells and installs bras (my used Beetle came with a few dings). Thanks again.

I think you can buy the fobs on ebay. Not sure of other places. But you will need the dealer to cut and program it.

woohoo!! Another Colorado orger! Please check out our Colorado Club's site New Beetle Club We will be carabugging to Bryson City, NC for the ToD cruise and GTG. We would love to have you join us. I have a fantastic dealership and also a totally awesome independent VW and Audi mechanic here in Ft Collins. When you do get your fob and you need it programmed, try Ed Carroll Motor Company. They are on South College Avenue, close to Foothills Mall.

Good luck with finding a fob and hope to see you at a GTG soon!

Thanks for your reply. Don't think I'll make it to NC this year. Do you know anyone who sells bras for beetles in the northern CO area? Or maybe around Denver? Thanks again.

If there is more than 1 dealer in your area call around before you get a key with remote or programming. When I was looking to buy 1 I got 4 differant prices from 4 dealers.Idon't remember price on key but programming was $50 at one dealer and up to $100 at another dealer.

No, I don't know anyone who sells bras. Try ebay or here on the org. Sometimes you will find someone who doesn't need theirs anymore. You might already know this, but be careful when you put it on. The bra can scratch the paint if you don't remove and clean it regularly. Also, some Beetle owners find that it does weird things to the paint (triple white ).

Default key fobs

back to the fob info :
98-99 nb without the immobiliser doesnt need to be programmed at the dealer , you can do it yourself , you just need 2 keys. Its a rather simple procedure that the dealer will actually do and charge you 100 bucks to do .
i found the info here
SIDEWINDER KEYS = inner profile HAA

there you go !
all the info you need for your vw keyfobs!
Cheers

Default how do i make sure i get the correct remote fob

Thinking about searching on eBay for a keyless remote fob. I have a 2004 new beetle rag top but need to get a remote. Dealer here in TN charges over 400 for one including programming. How do I know for sure I am getting the right one for my car if I find one on eBay? Thank you for any and all suggestions!! Hate using key to open doors, it is so not cool!
