If you have the little hydraulic hood support, it might need replacing. Cup, my beetle had the same problem. the pressure/recoil of the hydraulic rod aids in the lift/release of the hood, which allows the little release tongue to pop out. Most auto parts stores carry what you need.

Please post the end results. And please keep posting- don't be a stranger

If you have to have someone push down on it it is not the hydraulic strut because they push up not down. It has to do with the latch not releasing. Maybe needs lubrication or cable is too tight...just a guess

Try spraying the moving parts in the latch with some white lithium grease.Mine was sticking and it cured it.

Beg to differ. I had the same problem and used the method you used for a while. Replaced the Hydraulic strut and problem solved. At least it worked for me and I did no other remedies prior to the strut replacement.

I think I would try the lithium grease first.
