Default Coolant leak - - need part numbers/names, please.

My car has been slowly leaking coolant since about the time we changed my water pump and timing belt. I have located the point of the leak I think and it seems to be coming from the area of a connection between a metal pipe and a rubber hose. This is down low and just beside the lower part of the serpentine belt. There is a metal pipe that runs along a part of the frame from front to back then at the back takes a 90 degree bend towards the drivers side and connects to the rubber hose. I wish I could do a better job describing it but I don't know many part names. There is another metal pipe that is right near this pipe. That one is the one that has round ends but is flattened in the center. I can't remember what Aaron and Tom were calling that thing.

I'm wondering if anyone with Bentley info can tell me what this pipe is called and or give me a part number. I think I can replace it myself if I had the parts. If you can post diagrams or pics I can pick it out.

I was also having a CEL issue. I think I may have cured that tonight by removing what is left of my neons from under the car. The codes were both stuff about intermittent signals so I wondered if the wiring/grounding of the neons could be causing problems. I removed them and when I started the car to back off the ramps the CEL went out. I'm hoping it stays out cause I need to get E-checked and it'll fail if the CEL is on.

Thanks in advance, pros!

Looking in my Bentley now for you, and I see two metal pipes. One is larger in diameter and connects to a rubber hose - called the 'coolant pipe' oddly enough. This one does have a 90 degree bend in it.

The other pipe parallels the coolant pipe and looks thinner in my diagram. It's called the 'lower coolant pipe' and the Bentley says 'Secured to intake manifold' in the description.

Now, having said all that, are you sure it's not the coolant flange leaking and dripping down onto the rubber hose/pipe? In my diagram, it looks like the coolant flange is right above where the coolant pipe and rubber hose meet.

I'd guess that a lot more coolant flanges have been replaced for leaking than coolant pipes....

Any chance of pictures or diagrams? I'm pretty sure the leak is right in the 90 degree bend. What is a coolant flange? Where is a/the coolant flange?

Thanks millions.

The coolant flange (aka heart valve) is easy to locate. Just follow the upper rad hose toward the engine and you'll find the hose attached to the coolant flange. There may be one or two sensors attached to the flange as well, and maybe a few other smaller hoses.

The flange is a stupid brittle piece of plastic with an o-ring to seal it against the engine. Prone to leaking (not sure if it's the o-ring or the fact that it's plastic against metal). Anyhow, can't really give you a diagram - no scanner, though I suppose I could take a pic and post it if you really need to see it.....

BTW, here's a pic of the coolant flange on the 2.0 litre, the 1.8 is probably similar.

Tetsa, thanks a lot there is a lot of information there. My car is a 1.8T, I'm not sure I saw the part that i suspect to be my problem in the stuff you linked.

I really appreciate your effort.
