I only ever bought an extended warranty once, and it was a complete waste of money. Too many restrictions.
Personally, I think you're better off putting that money aside in case you need it.

I bought an extended warranty with my 99 1.8 turbo that covered everything... and I mean everything!!! for only $875.It was for 7 years or 75,000 miles. I was one of the lucky ones that was actually able to get my monies worth out of one. Seeing as the 99 NB had a 10 year/100,000 mile power train warranty but only a 24,000 mile bumper to bumper I thought it was a good idea to have that extra warranty to fall back on if the need arose in such a tech-no car . It did and it was worth every penny I paid for it. I think I am in the minority when it comes extended warranties as most people go with the wrong company and pay way too much. That extended warranty is the about the only thing you can barter with when buying a VW product. Mine started out at $1,200.00 and I got them down to $875.00. $1900.00 for this other warranty is excessive to say the least. The odds are against you when you buy this type warranty and that's why these companies stay in business. Buyer beware. JK

I'm in a similar situation. My '07 has 48500+K and at 50K it's a wrap for my warranty. I have searched many of the larger more advertised warranty companies and they want $2500 for 100K of coverage. If I do it before I go over 50K there is no deductible. After is between $100/200. I have maintained the car since new and oil & fluid changes give me some confidence, but as another forum friend has mentioned you can rebuild the car from this forum. Time and tools is all that is needed, necessary. I think I'm going to put my faith in the engineering of the cult, and the support of the ORG while I keep my paper in my pocket.

Thanks so much for all of the advice. I thought $1900 was way too much from the GMC dealership where I bought my little beetle, but just needed some confirmation. I totally agree about putting that money I would have paid into a "Bug" fund.
Thanks again. You guys are great! |
