What year is safe to buy a NB?

Okay, I've read many problems with Beetle's, especially with the first few models. Is there a year where Beetle's don't have much problems with? I would assume 2003+ ?

I have a 2000 GLS 1.8t and i've had problems...HOWEVER, I believe it's due to the age of my car. we're looking at a vehicle on the verge of 10 years old with 130,000 miles on her. And the problems are mostly maintenance things/wear and tear. i'm sure there might be a few constant issues that some of the older models have suffered, but none come to mind right now. As i'm sure you'll do, investigate the record of the vehicles upkeep and any background history before you purchase. I hope this will be of some help- It's only a little nugget, but i hope it helps

It seems the early models were prone to electrical issues. Most of these problems were worked out by 2003.5. I had no problems with my 2000 except age related things.

I have four NB's... '98, '99 and two 2000's; one of the 2000's I'm repairing because of the previous owners lack of maintenance and not the car.

As with any used car, some of the problems you may encounter are a result of the previous owner(s) actions or lack of.
