Default How to remove carpet

I have a '99 beetle with a terrible smell in the front passenger floor carpet. It comes and goes. Seems particularly worse when it's been very rainy. I checked the sunroof drains and they are clear. The floor doesn't seem wet, but mold will grow under rubber mats if I put them in. Anyway......

If I decide to replace the carpet, has anyone tackled this? If so, I'd appreciate a little guidance to tell me how to remove it. If someone has purchased aftermarket carpet, I'd appreciate info on that, too. Here is some I found, but not sure of quality.

Thanks and I am always impressed with the quality info I get from this forum.

Ok, you could get a new carpet, but try this first. I made white chili for the wife's office party one thanksgiving and she spilled it into the front passenger floor; do you know what spoiled garlic and chicken smile like?

Anyway here is what I did to resolve them problem, I got three pounds of Arm & Hammer Baking Soda and one box of Borax.

Step 1: Pour the Borax over the suspected wet area and let sit for a day. It works best if the car sits in direct sunlight for the whole day.

Step 2: Vacuum up the Borax and clean carpet with the carpet cleaner of your choice; do not soak the carpet.

Step 3: When the carpet dries from the cleaning put the baking Soda in a cloth bag (I used one of the cloth bags that Jersey bed linen come in) of some sort and cover the suspected area. I left the baking soda bag in the car for a week.
