A few problems

Sorry if the answers are already posted somewhere. I've been searching a lot and need some help. There are a few problems I am having with my 1998 Beetle, they are:

- Cant open driver door from inside
- Driver side door locks from outside 10% of the time
- Cant open trunk with switch or key (I think someone tried to work on this and messed it up, LOL. I think the wire is missing)
- The window motor seems to be going out
- The A/C doesnt work and when you try it, it makes clunking noises

If anyone can offer any advice or help it would be greatly appreciated. I have a few friends that may be able to help with the mechanics. Can anyone recommend a good online site to order parts for a 1998? Any site I come up with seems to be for vintage VWs.

As far as the opening the door from the inside, I had to fix that myself after replacing the speakers in the door. There is a cable from the handle to the door. It needs to be clipped in place at the handle, but also further down on the door. I clipped it at the top only and closed up the door card. Then it wouldn't open Popped open the door card and secured the cable on the door and it fixed it.

Your other problems sound like some electrical issues. Did you just recently get the car?

I think its mechanical, the cable must have come off. You have to partially remove the door panel and sneek your hand back there to see if it is connected.

- Driver side door locks from outside 10% of the time:

Your microswitch is broken, search "microswitch" or "microchip". There is a DIY guide. It will cost 5$ from radioshack but is a PITA to fix.

- Cant open trunk with switch or key (I think someone tried to work on this and messed it up, LOL. I think the wire is missing):
Sometimes you can adjust the rubber bump stops in the jams where the hatch closes so it pops easier but sounds like you got a custom garbage fix job.

- The window motor seems to be going out:

its 12yrs old, replace it. Sometimes the door panel can be on wrong causing it to rub and slow the movement of the window.

- The A/C doesnt work and when you try it, it makes clunking noises:

Somebody mangled your system.
