Yes, GLX means Turbo.
GLS for your year means many options, but many packages available. Let's just say you have an heavily optioned "Awesome New Beetle" package! ![]()

No. The GLS / GLX started in 1999. I have a 2000 GLX.

The GL was pretty stripped. I can't remember if it was initially available with just the 2.0, or the 2.0 and TDI. Towards the end of the GL/GLS/GLX naming, they added the 1.8t to the GL as well. The idea of the GLS is you could get any engine, and any options. If you wanted a 2.0, but wanted ALL options, GLS. If you wanted a 1.8t, but didn't want leather or a sunroof, GLS. It was possible to configure a fully loaded 1.8t as a GLS. All of the LEs / Color Concepts, were GLS. Even though the Color Concepts were fully loaded, 1.8ts, (and had some nice items never available on the regular GLX), they were all listed as GLS models. |

there's an EASY way to tell what trim you have based off the 4th digit of your vin (for 99-05 cars).
B=GL C=GLS D=GLX also works for verts too. now everyone can know what they have and not have to make 18bajillion threads about it.

I tried to order a GLS with a 1.8T turbo, leather and a bunch of other options when I bought my 2000 New Beetle. The sales guys said "You know, you get all of that in a GLX and it's the same price..." So, while it was possible to get a GLS with a 1.8T I'd imagine they're fairly rare as they were within a few hundred dollars of each other on the sticker.
