Is it a standard type or a dealer item?

Thanks.

check this link, but know that I have a '99 and don't have to consider re-programming the FOB so can't speak to whether or not that is anything you need to do

I have an '02 and we just bought the battery for our key fob at Walmart...less than 5 dollars. Check the jewelry counter, where they sell watch batteries, or by the auto area.
We also noticed that Auto Zone and others had the same batteries on their check out counters, though I am not sure how much they cost.
After replacing the battery, we did not have to reprogram. No problems at all.
There are threads on here about taking the key fob apart if you haven't already done that.

I've never had to reprogram a remote when I changed batteries.

The remote never gets programmed, it has its code permanently in the rom inside it. Same with the RFID for the immobilizer.

forgive my ignorance, but what do the many links referring to programming key/remote deal with? (one link here on the org for example)
I mean, there are so many links about this, does re-programming deal with newly cut keys only? (and not related to changing batteries in the remote?)

They're if you bought a new remote to program it to the car.

I once made the mistake of trying to reprogram one key from the '05 to the '03 (was unused) before turn-in, and wound up with two keys that unlocked/locked both cars. Fixed it with VCDS, though. Oops.

Default Help Required

hi guys, i bought my girlfriend a nb (second hand) at christmas and it only came with one key, instead of sourcing a replacement like i should have i just ignored it and now she has put it in the washing machine and it no longer operates the doors remotely. I was wondering if i source a second hand one could i still reprogramme the newer one once the keyblade was cut to match her car OR can i reprogramme the old one without buying a new one as it worked for about a week after the washing machine incident.
Thanks in advance Dale.

Default just changed my battery

Sweet,

Thank you all, I just changed my battery and improved the range of my fob by about 20 yards...not a bad increase as i used to have to stand closer than 10 feet to get it to work..
